Admissions may be in two ways -
If the Doctor decides to admit the patient then the patient will be issued an Admission Slip-I (Manual request slip for admission) with the details about the treatment required and an expected duration of stay of the patient. The Patient/Attendant, then, proceeds to the admission counter, situated on the ground floor of the New Building and gives a requirement of admission in the desired category. Admission staff will allot the room / bed according to your desired category, if available. In case of non availability of the room in the desired category, the staff will put your name in waiting list and will inform you on the availability. On a repeat admission, you can request for a room in a desired category on telephone 033-2432 0000/89 in advance for a particular day. The admission staff will contact you telephonically on availability of room.
Depending on the availability, the room is, then, we inform the patient the bed status. Otherwise we provide the according to their affordable limit. Prior to discharge, your Doctor will advise you regarding the plan of action, diet, medications precautions (if any) etc. to be followed, and subsequent follow - up visit to the hospital. Please follow the instructions carefully. After the discharge, you may contact your Doctor by calling telephonically on 033-2432 0000/89 for clarifications, if any.
At admission desk availability of the rooms in different categories along with the waiting status. Please do not forget to bring your medical records with Registration number during follow- up visits to the hospital.
The entire hospital is centrally airconditioned. Every patient bed from General to Deluxe is equipped with Central Oxygen supply & suction facility along with Nurse Call Facility. Nurse call facility ensures that nurse responds to your call personally and immediately. All admitted patients are provided with a fresh welcome kit on their arrival in the room which contains basic toiletry items like toothpaste, toothbrush, soap and tissue roll. Newspapers (Hindi or English) and a set of clean towels are supplied to patients occupying rooms in semiprivate category & upwards. There is a provision for a relative of a patient to stay with the patient in all wards except ICU, ICW, Post Operative ward & Nuclear Medicine ward.

Deluxe Room - These are well furnished rooms. It is provided with Central Oxygen & Suction facility, Television set, Sofa cum bed set for the patient's attendant.
Private Room - These are single room. It is provided with Central Oxygen & Suction facility, Television set, Telephone with local call facility, and an Attendant Couch for the patient's attendant.
Semi Private - These are well furnished spacious rooms which is shared by two patients. The room is provided with Central Oxygen & Suction facility, sofa cum bed set for patient's attendant, Television Set and a common toilet cum bathroom.
General Ward - These are with a provision for central oxygen and suction facility, nurse call bell system apart from routine patient care facilities.
Day Care Ward - Day Care unit is for the patients who are admitted for a few hours for chemotherapy or for observation following minor procedures.
The charges for the Day Care Ward are according to TREATMENT or CHEMOPLAN in the ward.
Bone Marrow Transplant Unit- This is 4 bedded airconditioned specialized isolation ward in the Old Wing for the recipients of Bone marrow transplant patients with strict zonalisation and other measures for the control of infection. It is provided with a television set, Telephone, an attendant couch & special dress for patient's attendant during their stay with the patient, apart from routine patient care facilities.

If during your stay, you wish to upgrade your category to a higher one (for example, from General Ward to Semi-Private Room), all procedure charges applicable to that higher category shall be applicable for the entire duration of your stay.
Good food is important in the treatment of the patients and is a part of total patient care.
The catering or dietary services of the hospital are perhaps one of the very important as being an image of the institution. Its basic concept is to provide nutritious, healthy and hygienic food for the patient. It’s well said, “Good food has Preventive, Curative and Rehabilitative value”. It enhances the immunity of the person by providing daily requirement of nutrients to the body therefore healthy eating habits go a long way in ensuring healthy life.
Dietary department of the hospital is one of the support services, which cater to the dietary needs of the patients and staff working in the hospital. It is headed by three Dieticians. The dietary department ensures that patients are provided well-balanced nutritious diet. As per policy only vegetarian diet is provided in Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute and Research Centre.
The dietary department is located on the Ground floor B block of the hospital. Special care is taken to maintain proper hygienic conditions to avoid infection to the patients. The kitchen staff is given special training for various therapeutic diets that are served to the patient and about how to maintain food hygiene in the hospital.
The dietician is responsible for the food of the patients. Cyclic menus are followed according to the seasonal vegetables in the hospital for the patients. Meals are checked and tasted by the Dietician before serving to the patient so as to ensure quality and hygienic food. Each dish is covered individually and transported in electronically heated trolleys. Daily feedback is taken from the patients by the dietician about the quality and quantity of various foods being served and any modifications are incorporated in the patients menu. Patient’s satisfaction is the foremost priority in the hospital. Depending upon the patient’s requirement, various types of therapeutic diets are prepared like Renal diet, Diabetic diet, Neutropenic diet and Salt restricted diet etc. Special care is taken to customize to the needs of all the patients. The patients are also given diet charts at the time of discharge for the necessary care.
In addition to providing meals for the patient, kitchen provides meals for the staff also. Special dining rooms have been provided for different categories of staff. There is a separate cafeteria for staff and doctors where food is served at concessional rates.
The consultant incharge of the patient will decide when it is advisable for the patient to leave the hospital. A discharge summary or discharge advice will be explained and handed over to the patient /attendants for follow up treatment at home. Copies of all the investigations are made available to patient from time to time during your hospitalization.
It is important that you arrange to leave by discharge time, so that we can prepare the bed and the room for new admission. It takes about 3 hours for the discharge formalities to be completed after doctor advises discharge. If you are unable to leave by 12 noon, bedcharges for half a day are added for the stay till 6:00pm beyond which full day charges are billed to the patient.
